Belvedere
The Belvedere Austrian Gallery was commissioned from architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, by the military leader Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736), and it was intended to be a summer residence located outside the city walls. The Belvedere is one of the finest Baroque structures in the world, with palace segments, the Upper and Lower Belvedere, that later became the permanent home of the Austrian Gallery. The Oberes Belvedere (or Upper) has recent Austrian and international art from the past two centuries, like the works of Gustav Klimt.
